Conversation date: February 22nd 2010 My field of research... Physics In Croatia I am (was) working at... Physics department, University of Zagreb. I am (was) residing in Croatia since... October 2008 My first impression of Croatia: A very different city style from my city, not big but nice, comfortable.
My colleagues in Croatia... They are all very nice and kind, always trying to help me as much as they can. My mentors here try their best to make me feel at home and get used to everything here. We often discuss physics a lot, and have made big progress.
I'm glad to have got an opportunity to conduct research in Croatia because... the research group here is very good. Their work represents the frontier of this field in the world.
The conditions to conduct research in Croatia are... good. The office conditions are very good. And I could also live a good life with the scholarship.
I've come across the following problems: visa, the resident permission, health insurance...
Things that should be improved: Going to see the doctors is a little complicated...
Being a mobile researcher is important because... scientific research needs international cooperation and discussion.
I’d recommend to policy makers in Croatia to... approve the visa for foreign researchers more easily and quickly. If it's possible, reduce some documents for visa, like birth certificate and certificate of no criminal conviction.
Croatia's role on the global scientific scene... Although it is not very outstanding in the overall sense, there are indeed some very excellent research groups of world first-class level.
